Matthew Brown, Trumpet


Matthew Brown grew up in Connecticut, USA before attending McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. During that time, he was an American Brass Quintet Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and performed as a soloist at the Montreal Nouvelle Musique Festival. 

Matthew was invited to the Lucerne Festival Academy from 2006-2008 along with the International Ensemble Modern Akademie. After moving to Germany, he began studying at the HfM Berlin with William Forman, where he was active in the contemporary music scene, winning an Eisler Preis for interpretation of a new composition. He then continued his studies with Jeroen Berwaerts at the HMTM Hannover, where Ensemble Schwerpunkt was founded. 

He has played as principal trumpet of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Norwegian Opera Orchestra and the Hamburger Philharmoniker and has appeared as a guest with musikFabrik, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Ensemble Modern. He is now principal trumpet of the Nürnberger Symphoniker.
