Matthew Sadler, Trumpet

Matthew Sadler was born in London in 1981.  He received a First Class Degree in History from University College London in 2003, studied the trumpet in Vienna and Munich on a DAAD Scholarship, before completing his education at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s Karajan Akademie.   He is a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and performs in the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA.

Outside the orchestra, Matthew’s repertoire ranges from baroque music to new commissions.  He devotes much of his time to the natural trumpet, collaborating extensively with MusicAeterna and Teodor Currentzis, as well as appearing as a soloist with ensembles such as the Münchner Hofkapelle.  In addition to his work with Schwerpunkt, other new music projects for 2015 include Richard Ayres’ NONcerto for trumpet and several performances of George Benjamin’s opera Written on Skin.  This summer, he will also appear at the London Proms with Stravinsky’s Octet and at the Trasimeno Music Festival playing JS Bach’s Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen.

Matthew studied with Hannes Läubin and Jeroen Berwaerts; his other formative influences include Marco Blaauw and Christopher Dicken.  He lives in Munich and sits on the Board of the MCO.
